Glossary

The panel and this documentation use the same words. Here they are, a paragraph each.

Node

Anything that joins your cloud network and gets an address in it: a camera running the agent, the app. A node is about the network: who stands where, and how to reach them.

Device

The hardware as property: whose it is and who has been shown it. A device is about ownership, a node is about the network, and they are not the same thing. For a camera the two coincide: one camera is one device and one node.

Network

Your own piece of the cloud. It is cut for you at registration, and everything you connect lands in it. Traffic between different networks is not carried at all – not by a setting that can be weakened, but by a rule applied to every packet.

Enrolment token

The one-shot password a device joins your network with. It lives an hour and is spent on one device (or on a batch, if it was issued that way). A device that joins with a token from "How to connect" is yours at once. While the token is alive, anyone holding it can put a device into your network – and make it yours – which is why it does not go into a group chat.

Claim code

Proof that the hardware is in your hands. It is needed when a device joined with someone else's token – a batch token, or an installer's. The device prints the code locally; you enter it in the panel, and the device becomes yours. Until then its stream is served to nobody, including you: an unclaimed device has no owner, so there is no one to show it to.

Grant

Access to one device, given to one person. A grant has a role, but what gets checked is not the role – it is the verb: view, control, configure. The full table is in Control away from home. Shell is never part of a grant.

Relay and tunnel

Two different things, and worth not confusing.

The relay carries video. When a direct connection between you and the camera does not come up, the picture goes through it – it passes it along and stores nothing.

The tunnel carries not a stream but one connection to one port of a device: ONVIF, the camera's settings, SSH. It is what the "Controls" button in the panel and control from the app away from home are made of.
